LATEST NEWS (February 2010): Pilgrims, please be aware of theft in the albergues. Even the staff can not be trusted!
Dr. Jack DeGroot has walked the camino numerous times from 2001 onward.
He graduated in Spanish literature (García Lorca, Góngora), even owned his own
restaurant. All this expertise, and the valued help of veteran pilgrims and persons who
live on the camino itself, resulted in the Camino de Santiago Ultimate Handbook being
published. Information taken from the Internet may come for free. But, is it accurate
and up to date? No, never. You only receive more SPAM after visiting these "free
sites". The Camino de Santiago - Ultimate - Handbook website has been updated
. You won't receive any unsollicited mail from us!
Stefanie K. Winter M.D. graduated from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. Jack and Stefanie met up in January 2008 when both walked the Camino Francés from Burgos to Santiago. In fact, Jack had become aware of her presence early on, when he was told by the caretaker of the refuge of Hornillos that: "A young German physician walks three days ahead of you. She will be able to write the medical section of your Handbook." Two weeks later, just past Villafranca del Bierzo, the two met in person and joined forces. The Camino de Santiago Ultimate Handbook had become the first guide which offers the pilgrims professional medical advice.
